EXPED x POW: Together for the Swiss glaciers
2025 has been declared the Year of Glaciers by the United Nations General Assembly. With the "1400 glaciers - 1400 reasons to act" campaign, POW Switzerland is calling on national politicians to consistently adhere to the climate targets. The issue of climate protection should be made heard at federal level - because only together can we achieve our goal of net zero by 2050.

EXPED has been supporting and financing myclimate carbon offset projects on a large scale for years and is a member of Protect Our Winters (POW). POW is an international non-profit organisation and the voice of the outdoor community for climate protection.
At the beginning of the year, the United Nations General Assembly declared 2025 the International Year of Glacier Conservation to raise awareness of the crucial role of glaciers, snow and ice in the climate system and water cycle, as well as the far-reaching consequences of their rapid decline.
POW Switzerland takes up the issue and explains: "Without effective climate protection, almost all Swiss glaciers will disappear by the end of the century. Only targeted action can stop this. If we reduce emissions now and achieve net zero by 2050, some of the glaciers can be preserved. If we stick to the two-degree target, around a quarter of today's ice - especially at high altitudes - will remain. This would mitigate the worst consequences of glacier melting."

Demanding change together
Together with POW, the outdoor community is showing that it will not stand idly by and watch the glaciers disappear. POW Switzerland has launched the 100-day campaign "1400 glaciers - 1400 reasons to act". It will run from mid-June to mid-September 2025, at the end of which all the contributions collected will be handed over in Bern together with political demands.
The more contributions submitted during these 100 days, the more glaciers will be made visible - and the more weight the demand for consistent climate protection at federal level will gain.
